One of the funniest tales of “Reds” concerns the time an entire bourach escaped from the main market square in the Castlegate in Aberdeen city centre.

They took off as a pack surging down the street as onlookers scattered, ran straight through the open door of a local public house known as  The Old Crones Beard ( sadly now a bank on a Union street corner) upending table and chairs as they went.

One Steven Booth, a well known local drunkard watched their progress with his disbelieving beer sozzled eyes and was heard to remark ” Michty the local quines are nae gettin ony bonnier”( trans : My word, the local girls are not getting any prettier) he received a nasty nip on his right ankle from a haggis.
